President Barack Obama selected Richard Blanco in 2012 to serve as the fifth inaugural poet in U.S. history, putting him in the elite company of Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, Miller Williams, and Elizabeth Alexander. Born in Madrid to Cuban parents, Blanco grew up in Miami and has used his work to probe questions of identity and place.
